Subject: 700 subwoofer system?

My cousin has an '04 honda civic with stock speakers and a kenwood KVT-719DVD stereo.  He wants to add some bass.  I have a sealed box with 1.0 cu. ft. volume for each 12" sub, but I'm looking for recommendations on an amp and a pair of subs that are loud and don't require an alternator upgrade.

The local stereo shop quoted him for an amp and subs for $500, but they were Pyramid or some other cheap brand.  What's a good set-up for less than $700?

15" Alpine type r $200 maybe a little more, ideally 3ft ported box...could be all the down to 1.5 ft^ tuned at 32-36hz and an alpine 750 mono. That would pound for sure... Or you could get a 12, only $140 and only 500 watts, then you could get 2 eventually and have an awesome system...i have 2 10s running on 1500rms and it slams.

I looked at the 12" Alpine Type R and I think I like those.  What's a good class D amplifier for a pair of these?  I have an old RF 200DSM amp laying around.  Do you think it will work good with those subs?  I'm not sure if I should get the ones with the 2ohm or 4ohm coils but I guess it depends on the amp I get.

Type R 15 in 1.5 cu ft ported would sound like crap.

Completly agree with you but you could do it as a temporary setup

A single 10 in 1.5 cu ft would sound a lot better than that. Why would you suggest a set that sounds like crap??

What do you think of (2) 12" type R 1242D each in a sealed enclosure with about 0.9 cu. ft volume?  I'll probably add some more mdf  inside to reduce the sealed volume to the recommended.

I have an old punch 200DSM that puts out 200Wx2 @2ohms.  Will the two subs still sound ok in a sealed enclosure with this little power?

If the amp doesn't work, what's a good class D, 1ohm stable amp I could get?

my american 100 watt amp is more power full than your foreign garbage 1000 watt amp.

Honestly bro, the type r's love ports. I would defintly get a ported box if you want it to really slam. You could even get 1 12" in a 2 cubic foot box which you would be happy with and it will cut your amp price in half. Or you could get two single boxes 1.5 to 2.0 ft would be ideal. If you want it to slam get a ported box/boxes

But you know what...I have a PERFECT box for you, I think it is .9 cubic feet per side, its sealed, it's dual 12" and its and awesome box. Make of super good materials its very heavy and nice. I can send picture if you want. Email me a whitemike0110@yahoo.com

Yeah that box would be perfect for two 12" type r's

I usually make my own boxes out of 3/4" MDF, and I talked to my cousin today and he liked the single 12" Type R in a vented enclosure.  I'm wondeing how much I should sell him my Rockford Fosgate 200 DSM amp for.  Do they sell for around $200 on ebay?
