I have a Rockford 550x powering my front and rear speakers. I wanted to run the front pair at 2 ohms to get more power to them, 125Wx2, but did not want to add more speakers to acheive this. Would it be safe or possible to do this with a parallel 4 ohm resistor on each speaker?

What you'd end up doing is doubling the power output, but the resistor will take half the power, so the end result is your amp will work twice as hard for the exact same sound quality, if not slightly worse because its working harder.
