Anyone used them, got any opinions you'd like to share?
I've got a 91 Mk2 Golf and am going to be doing an install in it in the next month or so. I'll be getting 2 12" subs and a Mono block amp to power them, I live in the UK, and I am open to suggestions, I went to a specialist and looked at some directed audio "studio" subs which I liked the sound and look of but want to make sure what you people think. I'm thinking of using an Alpine V12 amp to power them, this sound ok or should I stick with a directed audio amp as well?
thanks in advance.
the Directed amps are decent amps...the subs are OK as well, it depends on your price range, what you want, and what is available in your area...
are you looking to compete, or is this for listening pleasure only? are you really big on sound quality, or do you want to shake every car around you at a stoplight? and finally, how much money do you want to spend?
one thing about going with the Alpine amps that I have found is the sub amps that Alpine builds typically seem to have low capacitance...they run out of juice too quickly, and I have never been impressed with them that way...I put 2 Alpine 1507s in my buddies car a couple years back and they could never seem to keep up to the subs...but that is my experience/opinion, and I am sure there are probably people who happily run Alpine amps in their rides too...
alpine amps are good but require a lot of power. direced amps dont to put out the same power the more the power the better but they are rated and tested at 12.5 volts instead of most amps which are tested at 14.4 volts that means it is better for the car cause it basses with out the strobe lights which are supposed to be your headlights

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.
I'm looking at spending roughly £500-£600. I want two 12's and amp/s to power them, I was thinking 2x12w3v2 and one Alpin v12 MRD M500, is that a good combo? I've always heard good things about JL so i'm not worried there but with the amps I need to sort that out, I doubt i'll be competing, but I might, general listening is very important but yeh now and then I wouldn't mind being able to make people vibrate etc. he he. I'll be updating to some sweet component in a few months and ditching my 6x9s cos they're in the rear shelf at the moment and I've heard they'll get buggered by the subs? right?
A guy I know runs www.enginecandy.com and he+me are going to do a proper install, I've taken my car to show 'n'shines before and would like a nice install to help show the car off a little.
