04 dodge ram 1500 srt 10,

Hey, names austin, I own a 2004 Dodge ram 1500 SRT-10 and I have decided I am going to put an after market head unit in the car, and build a sub-woofer mount under the rear seats using MDF and a skill saw and such. Anyways, my question is, if you have ever seen a stock radio in the 04 dodge's, they are unusually big for a radio and all, and i looked it up and everyone has said that i need to buy a radio dash kit to fit it. I have found one at this site.

This should take care of that problem, correct?
Now, I understand for rebuilding audio systems, you must buy a new amplifier. Correct me if im wrong, but doesn't a 04 dodge ram 1500 come with a stock amp? If yes, isn't it behind the glove box?
If i were to purchase a new one, is there anyway to work around this issue? If there is, as much help as possible would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you to anyone who leaves help/advice.

Use the Scosche 1277 dash kit and you will need the CRA antenna adaptor as well. As far as the OEM amplifier, remove the OEM deck and check to see on the harness that there is a remote turn on lead for the OEM amplifier. It is opposite of the switched ignition wire on the harness. Not sure on the OEM color but if the remote turn on lead is there, then you can use a CR02 harness.

If you are wanting to use existing OEM wires & the OEM remote turnon wire is NOT present, then you must use a Metra 70-6510.This is a amp bypass harness and will plug into the output side of the OEM amplifier. There is no amp turn on from the OEM deck.If you want to bypass the OEM without using the harness, then just re-wire the speakers directly to a new 4 channel amplifier.

Well after further looking on the net last night, I am slowly learning about all of this and i have currently 4 speakers in the car, 2 front to rear, and what im really looking to do is just add a new head unit, 2 sub woofers in the back, and im guessing i will have to add an amplifier. Problem is, the dodge i own has the infinity sound system in it and i was told that it has an amplifier stock in the car. Is this true? if yes, is there anyway i can keep the four speakers and just add an amp, and the two subs in the back?

one more thing to add, I am a total begginer at this and would love to understand how it all works, so as much help as possible would be GREATLY appreciated

The amp is located behind the glove box just behind the airbag. If your wanting to replace the deck and still use the OEM speakers, you will need to buy the Metra harness. If your wanting to add a 4 channel amp, then you can use the Metra harness or rewire directly to the speakers.

I mean im doing this on a short budget because of the economy and stuff, what would you suggest doing? because the the stock speakers aren't really bad, i would like the bass of the music to be redirected to the sub woofers instead though.

If your only wanting to add an amp to the existing Infinity system, you only need to tag the rear speaker inputs for the amplifier. Most monoblock amps have high level inputs and some have a bass control knob to adjust the bass from the front. This is the most economical way of adding bass to the stock system.

well no, i want to keep the stock speakers, but replace the head unit, add an amp for 2 subwoofers.

You will need to use the Metra 70-6510 harness if you want to replace the OEM deck and keep the speakers. This harness will make everything work and it's easier that rewiring the OEM amp harness.

Ok, You can replace the stock headunit with an aftermarket deck and keep your OEM amp your local install shop will be able to give you the harness dashkit and antenna adapter to do so. You may however have to do an amp bypass they were wierd in 04 if it is indeed the amp bypass I would suggest simply because you are inexpieenced and have to go to the OEM amp that you get it proffesionally installed cause it can be a bit tricky if you've never done it. As far as adding a sub amp to your exisisting system there is no problem with that and because you are adding an aftermarket deck you will have your outputs and remote turn on at the aftermarket deck so you won't have to go anywhere near the factory wiring. This will allow you to keep you factory speakers and use an aftermarket deck subs and amp.
