I have a 08 Dodge ram and I installed a phenoix gold QX900.1 amp and 2 kicker cvt 12's. Feel free to flame me lol but i still have the facotry head unit with a step down installed on it. The problem i'm having is when I have the volume past 25 or so the amp will act like its going into protection but the indicator light on the amp doesnt go red. below 25 it works fine and beats hard. the subs are SVC and wired directly to the 2 channels on the amp @ 4ohm. however the amp is 1ohm stable and i know there are 2 speaker jacks outside but they are wired mono inside the amp. Ok here is what I have tried so far. I switched the amp with another amp i know works. it did good for a day or so but then instead of cutting out it blows fuses. so i took BOTH amps and put them into another vehicle and they work fine. I traced all my wiring and even re-did the ground and still having the same problems. I bought a JVC head unit with amp pre-outs to make sure that wasnt the problem and with direct rca to radio and amp still had the same problems. Someone had mentioned that 08 rams need a voltage regulator for the radio but i havent found anyone who can confirm this. Anyone have any suggestions?

[QUOTE=elpumpe]I still have the facotry head unit with a step down installed on it. QUOTE] What is a step down ? Also, what happens when you have the stock radio above 25 ( without the add on equipment hooked up ) ? ------------- Jeff

Sorry by step down i mean a line level convertor. using the radio speaker wire to convert to RCA and i can blast the radio as loud as it can go and it all works fine except the amp cuts off for like 2 seconds then starts back and then cuts out agian and rinse repeat. But the factory speakers and radio play continiously.

What is the input sensitivity of the amplifer rated for ? You might be exceeding the input voltage of the amplifier.

use only ONE of the speaker outs to run the amp. So just tap into ONE of the speakers and split the RCA out for your amp... almost 4v at 35 the max level on the factory stereo.

i forgot that this truck also has a factory subwoofer.... u might wanna use THAT output to run your bass. the woofer is in the lower center console.

Forgive my ignorance but how can i tell which wires is for my sub output? honestly i didnt even know i had a factory sub. i thought that was only in the infinity systems. as for the split i can just use a y adaptor at the convertor to split one output to two rcsa for the amp correct? input voltage btw is 10-15.5 v and the gain and bass boost is turned all the way down. Thanks to everyone for all your help !

I really dig the "rinse repeat"..... Measure voltage at the amp on both the turn on, and the constant. As suggested... (if their is a gain) on the "step down" turn the gain(s) down. Jeffs info sounds the most reasonable! -------------
