I am just another mobile audio "know it all". But Im stuck in a rut here, and would like to hear opinions. My Nissan Frontier system is comprised of basic equipment from around the house and handouts from friends. I need better amps and dont want to spend the money for the real deal. Im thinking of just getting a lame cheap amp. Hate to name names, the some of us know which ones I am talking about. I have heard good sound from lame components but never purchased them for my use. I guess I feel embarassed to have something you might find at a superstore. Anyway Boss Audio cx1100 is something Im thinking of. Should I do it? Reason why not?

The outlandish power claims would be my first reason. Poor build quality, signal to noise ratio, distortion, cheesy connections and general use of the cheapest parts money can buy...

More?

Suffice to say there are MANY characteristics that can't be "quantified", not the least of which would be that your friends will laugh at you for buying a Boss amp. Your embarrassment is real, my friend... It's real. posted_image

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

if you look at the amplifiers fuse, and then multiply that number by 7.5 that will give you the true wattage of the amps, ive had a boss amp, very long ago, i think theyre the home off the 1200 watt max 200 watt rms beauty, but an amp is an amp the way i see it, as long as you can wire it for maximum output,

multiplying the fusing by 7.5 does not give the amps "true rms wattage"

The 7.5 thing does kind of work assuming it is a class AB amplifier. The efficiency of 60% actually comes out pretty close. however since the new class D amplifiers are considerably more efficient than the older AB amplifiers, it is not useful for them.

cool I didnt want to sound conceited about the shame of owning one of those brands. To get a idea of what I have done so far, you might be able to view pics here:
