Hi

For some reason one of my speakers has stopped working, I'll find why later. Heres my question if I disconnect the speak from the radio the other three will work but as soon as I connect even one wire of the faulty speaker they all go off. Why is this? I have had my meter on wires from the back of the radio and they are measure 4 ohms accross the speaker.

Has anybody come across this before??

The new generation of Output chips have a protection curcuit built into them.  It sees a shorted speaker or a grounded speaker wire, and it turns itself off to avoid damage.

Yeah, Hes right. Its pretty much a protection feature to keep from damaging your headmount. Most amps have them, and a couple newer recievers do as well. Alls you gotta do is replace that one speaker and you'll be golden.

Cool thanks. Its a new one on me?? I could understand if was off an amp for the protect reason but this is off the actual head unit and I have never seen that before. The speakers are going anyway and new ones all through the car.

Thanks for the help.

Some of the newer radios will also display fault or short on the display to let you know that there is a problem. And if you do happen to take out a channel of the output chip (by touching 12 volts to one of the speaker wires) the radio displays "Failure" in the startup sequence. But the other 3 channels will still work. cough cough Sony
