10w6 ported or 12w6 sealed

I currently have a box contructed at 1.30 cubic feet per chamber.  I was thinking about getting the JL audio's 12W6 which would be perfect and no mod's to the box, however, I noticed the 10W6 requires very little space for a ported enclosure. I could easily modify to make it work within specs. I listen to mostly reggae / Hip Hop / dance type music.  Would I benefit from a ported enclosure (2-10's) even though I would have to modifiy my enclosure with ports/slots, or would It sound and feel better with the 12's sealed? Thanks

it depends, what do you mean by modify? you're not just going to cut a hole in a sealed box are you? can you fit the right sized port inside your box. i say, if you are going to go through the trouble of moddifying a box you might as well just build one to fit.

as far as the sound goes, a ported box will fit the reggae and the hip hop music very well but it might sound so great with the dance music if it is a fast beat. the sound you get from a ported box really depends on how it is built and tuned which is mainly why i say you should build one instead of modifying what you have.

try going sealed first and if you dont like it make a ported box.

When I say modify, I mean adding the right slot configurations.  Definitly not adding a hole to the box.  The original question had to do with a sealed 12 inch verse a 10 inch ported.  Designing the ported box really isnt a issue for me, its trying to figure out what would sound better for my application. 2 -12 inch sealed or 2-10 inch ported? And I never seen a subwoofer that needs only .75 cubic feet ported. The 12 inch model needs double that, 1.5 cub ft

You'd benefit from using the 12 over the 10...regardless of box type.  Keep to your original thought on using the 12W6.  You want to maximize the lowest of frequencies, not SPL freqs.  Bear in mind, the freq range that you would be augmenting using the vented 10's is already boosted in the recording, judging by the music genres you have listed.
