i am new here to the forums not to car audio i was wandering if anyone could help me out building a box i used the sites calculator i understand the cubic feet and interior volume of the box part just not the port.... i am trying to make the box 4 cubic ft i am using a 12 inch kicker solo x dual 4 ohm and a kicker 1250.1 amp it is going in a 2004 Chevy cavalier i need to know in only have a high school diploma not a college education terms how exactly to build the box and where to put the port behind of or beside the speaker i am going to use 3/8 mdf

3/8 will not hold up to that sub.     3/4-1"MDF would be alot wiser choice.

Port location is not a major concen, but when you start getting ports with quite a bit of length that you will have to wrap around 2 walls, it can come into play.

Length X Height X width = Sq IN

SQ IN/1728 = Cu ft.

Make sure to take into account your port and sub displacments as they can throw off box paremetes by .5cuft or more on a box this size

this is what i came up with 26 W 16 H 28 D 3/4 thickness i got about 5.5 cubic ft so after i put the sub woofer in there and the braces i should only have about 5 cubic ft to work with for the sub if that's what you were saying. by the way i hear the bigger the box the better is this true or should i just go with the 3 cubic ft tuner box.

The solo X 12" with the corect amount of power will need/want 4cu ft + to sound right, anything under that and they dont have the best freq range
