Hi to all!
Not sure I'm on the right forum, but I will give it a try...
I have a couple of good ol' tape stereos (Alpine 7390 & Harman Kardon CR-151) that I would like to have them play into my garage along with a couple of amps and speakers...
What I would like to build is a small rack with these components installed (a la Best Buy type of rack). My question is, How do I power them? Any recommendations on what type of power supply I will need that can handle them. unfortunately the amps are a little bit big (Rockford Power 300 and Punch 150)
Also, any idea of the company that build the relays (or switches) that allow you to choose/play different combination of head units/amps/speakers?

a couple deep cycles battery's and a battery charger. That is what I used for my set up in my garage.

Can you recall what battery charger are you using? how do you wire both batteries, parallel?
Do you know if there's a solution that doesn't require the use of batteries? I have a nosy dog and a couple of curios toddlers (if you know what I mean) :)

Or you can go to radio shack or something and get a power inverter.

Most of the power inverters are from 12v --> 120v. What I would like to find is from 120V --> 12v. with maybe 30 Amps (?)
I wonder what type of power setup the stereo racks of the department stores have, even to handle the big amps/subs they have running.
Any ideas?

what you need is a 12 volt power supply. I have a 25 amp power supply from radio shack and I can power a 200 watt rms amp all day long. I used to have an old deck and 50w x 2 @ 2 ohm amp that would crank all day.
Much better than batteries and a charger as the charger would only be helping while the equipment is off and not pulling power.

Well the ones that best buy and other retailers have are expensive. Roughly 3,000-5,000. What is the reason you want one?

Look in to an Astron power supply - they are great for power automotive junk and arn't too terribly priced. If you want something that is going to last skip the Pyramid and go with the Astron.
