I have a 2002 avalanche. I'm trying to put 10's under the back seats. I have about 6" for height and thats it. The subs I want have a depth mounting of just a bit less than 6". Will this be a problem? Won't the woofers hit the bottom of my seat when they hit? Please any advise or info!

If you get a sub with insane linear excursion you might run into problems. I have JL Audio W3's in my car and the excrusion is 11mm, which is quite a bit compared to most speakers. So it will problably depend on what kind of sub you get. I had a problem in my truck with my kicker comp vr 10's hitting the back of my seat and rubbing so I just put grilles on them and that gave the the protection they needed.

It’s hard to say if your sub is just under 6" you have to leave room for the thickness of the enclosure as well as the sub sitting on the enclosure and then the excursion. But if all you have is 6" it may be a tight fit. One more thing to mention is the sub needs room to breathe and give off sound waves. If you have the bottom of the seat 1/4" away form the sub its most likely not going to sound that great. As far as the Excursion goes it varies sub to sub but you can figure that out by looking at the specs of your sub.

do you already have subs that you are trying to make work for this application? if not, I would suggest Illusion Audio ND10s...they are a very shallow sub with minimal excursion...but they are really nice sounding subs and perform pretty well at the same time...

as bberman stated, you have to allow for the thickness of the enclosure as well as everything else...the ND10s I think have a mounting depth of around 3" so you would not encounter any kind of problem as far as room...

I have not gotten any subs yet. So If ya'll could reccomend some good sounding subs with a shallow mounting depth and around .5 to .8 of required air space that would be great! ...I looked for te nd10's but couldn't find them anywhere.
