Pros and Cons depends on the install and what the user wants.

Opiniarian: JL's bass is a little, softer/smoother and requires a little less attention to specs on the enclosure. Buuuuttt everyone has em.

How "soft" or "smooth" ANY SUBWOOFER sounds depends on the enclosure.

Indeed. Speaking with respect to each subs intended enclosure size. When it comes down to it, JL subs produce a richer sound especially in smaller enclosures. Following detailed specs while building each brands enclosure, the DA will sound punchier and dryer.

ok so what would be on par with these subs, give me some subs that would be on par and would work well in a single 10 .6 sealed box with 400rms@4ohms/600rms@2ohms, i want something that will hit hard but sound clean

"recommended specs" mean nothing to a custom enclosure builder.

Single 10 eh? Quite honestly your only gonna get so much out of a speaker. Assuming your amp is properly installed you are at liberty to choose anything in the mid - lower high end of most common brands. If your looking for something more, the enclosure is equally if not more important.

How do you do it? Just get the listeners audio preferences and design with the allotted working space and equipment type? What about when it comes to ports and vents? I got one for ya right now I been stirring over for days now. Can I give you the breakdown here, or open a new thread?

i really dont have enough space to make a bigger box since i have a crew cab colorado, i have a single ten enclosure made by subthump thats a downfire box

Gotcha ern, since the box is made by subthump I'll assume that it is built and supported to host a competition level 10". My old Alpine MRD-500 supported up to 8V on the input. I used a phoenix gold line driver and pushed 2 Diamond 10's. (If that helps any) Go for the sub that you can get a good price on. Make sure its the sealed box style and make DOUBLE sure all screws are fastened tight for the downfire app.

D3's are said to optimize in vented enclosure's. RE's may do better in your box. Again, a single 10 point blank is only so much. Quality begins and ends with longevity. Subwoofer brands at this level do not make the differences you are asking. For instance; I had 2-Pioneer IMPP-12" they were 60$ each(back then) Sealed box with 2 ft3(cubic feet) per speaker had 3/4 of a city block bass travel. The kind of sound that made people love rap. 4 months later no foam surround all the way around the cone. Powered by a JBL gtq-400, 200w/spkr @ 4 ohms. MTX electronic X-over. So, I purchased 2 woofers every 4 months for 3 years LOL. God it was nice being young and dumb. I had a point here....I think hah!
