Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and I had a few questions. I'm installing a Power Acoustik SL-3400 class d amp in my buddies boat. I need to run at 1 ohm due to the speakers I have. The speakers are 400w per voice coil and are dual voice coils each. The boat has a 105 amp alternator and has four deep cycle batteries. The only other power draw is to the mids and highs amps 3000 watts for them. Should I run this amp and if so will I have any problems. Thanks.

I assume you mean DUAL 4 ohm coils...and i've never heard of any company rating their woofer's wattage per coil. I assume that they are 400W Dual 4 ohm.
If so, then you'll be ok.
I can't find a pic that shows the fuse, can you look and post how much it is? that way we can tell what the AMPERAGE draw is on the charging system

It has a series of 5-30 amp fuses and the speakers are dvc speakers 800watts each earthquake rates per coil don't know why but I want to run at 1 ohm.

What is the impedance of each voice coil?

If you don't know why, then why are you doing it? The difference in SPL will be inaudible...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

figure out the Independence of your subwoofers. Thats sound 101 right there...once you get that...you need to tell us...and we will tell you how to wire them to one 1 Ohm properly

alaisneo, I don't mean to bust your chops, but I've seen and heard the word "impedance" misspelled and mispronounced many different ways, however this is the first time I've ever seen "Independence" used. Thanks for the laugh ;)

sorry auto spell check thing sux..i just let it do its thing....well did you find your INDEPENDENCE "impedance" yet?...you have to know this or you could put major stress on your amp.

They are four ohm coils. I know how to wire the speakers, it's just that I've heard that 1 ohm even if the amp is stable at 1 ohm can be dangerous to the amp and it will need alot more power to run it.

What you have heard is true.   Do you still want to do it?

I can only assume that you have 2 woofers.  If so here are your options.

Option 1 (parallel/parallel) = 1 ohm load
Voice coils wired in parallel, speakers wired in parallel
Recommended Amplifier: Stable at 1 ohm mono

Option 2 (series/parallel) = 4 ohm load
Voice coils wired in series, speakers wired in parallel
Recommended Amplifier: Stable at 4, 2, or 1 ohm mono

It will not be as loud at 4 ohm...It will put less stress on the amp..however 1 ohm will be much louder but will put stress on the amp..but if its stable at 1 ohm you will be fine...as far as distortion at both ohm loads im not sure....you will just have to try it

oh yea, i got a planet audio apocalypse 1500d, it is 1 ohm stable, i guess ill stick with 1 ohm...my amp doesnt get that hot with my gains how they are now so it should be good...

yea you don't want it to get hot that's for sure..you will lose alot of power that way. Buts its always fun to hook them up all kinds of ways...
