i have a 12" inch type r. what is a good amount of internal volume for a sealed box? i want to be loud inside/outside the car. no i dont want ported. just tell me the internal volume please. on the info for the type r i know it says 1.0 cu. ft. but i was wondering if i got a bigger sealed box, would it be louder?

Going with a larger sealed enclosure would not be louder. In fact it would probably be slightly quieter.

Just stick to the 0.75-1 cubic foot of internal volume for a sealed enclosure. There is not going to be a noticeable difference between a sealed enclosure in that range.

I know you said you don't want ported but is there a specific reason? The reason I ask is because it sounds like that would be the best enclosure for you. The Type-R performs best in a properly built ported enclosure and it would give you more output then a sealed enclosure. If loudness is what you are after then that would be the way to go.

oh i see. thanks for the reply, really helped me out. right now, i have my type r in a pre-fab vented 1.8 cu. ft. (i know pre-fab vented boxes are not the right way to go). it sounds kind of sloppy and bad quality. how will a 1.0 sealed sound?

It will sound very good.  I currently have two type R 12's in a sealed box that I built for them with around 1.1 cu ft each and I am very pleased, loud and deep.   Just make sure you have an amp that is enough for them.  They tend to like/need alot of juice escpecially sealed.  I've got a JL 1000/1 on mine.

Sealed would be better for sound quality and not having that sloppy bass. If you are not happy with the output then I would recommend a ported enclosure that is tuned lower. The prefab enclosure you had them in was probably tuned higher (around 40Hz or so) which will give it that sloppy sound. Tuning it lower should give you some "tighter" bass.

Try the sealed and see how you like it. If you aren't happy with it then a lower tuned ported enclosure would be the way to go. Just make sure to get one custom made or make your own instead of going prefab.
