where to run power wire through firewall?

I own a 2002 monte carlo with the amp under the rear deck. anyone know of the most common place to run the power wire through the firewall? on montecarloforum.com they said to "use the passenger side" but i only got the 1 response and that doesn't quite help me... where is the grommit that i should be shoving this wire (4ga soon to be 0) through? thanks in advance, i badly want to get my sounds installed today! -chevy metal

People use the grommet's that the hood release go's through. Just follow cable from hood release...same w/ any harness that goes through......I believe there is a firewall padding/insulation on those ,on inside of car...Will have to remove...My recommendation would to be to buy a uni-bit and make your own whole.or take it to a shop and have them make a 0 Gauge hole w/ grommet...you might be able to get a 4 gauge through...zero is going to be tough to go through w/o making a new whole. Oh yeah there is that big space between the door jam...Just kidding, just kidding...just kidding! If you find a big enough grommet to come through(be very careful not to slice any wires when cutting through rubber grommet, always look on both sides of cut) , make a slit w/ a razor , push power wire through to proper lenght, then seal up the slit w/ silicone etc...My first day on the job ,the guy who was training me used a knife to cut slit in grommet, he cut about 7 wires in half...Just take your time...Follow any harness that goes through firewall...See if grommet is big enough,if not uni-bit time!

If you really need it done today, im sure several shops have open appointment books...I would guess between $25-$45 bucks

you're the man tommy. thanks for the tip. one last thing! i know about the whole door chime deal but i'm just going to bypass the entire stock system... i only need to connect the power and ground on my alpine for it to turn on, right?? tia -chevy

i'm majorly jumping ahead of myself, even if i do get everything done today i'll be rolling without a radio for a few days until the plugs for my ppi come in... but i'm gonna do it anyway so it's installed just that much faster when they get here!

If you do not get harness w/ door chime...You will lose the warning chimes(played through speakers) ...door open,key in ignition,lights left on...You found a spot for power wire...Please post for others...

most definately, i'll try to tackle it tomorrow and will take pictures if possible. i don't need the chimes, and do not want to pay 100 bucks to integrate it to my amp, i'm not even going to be using it. i'm upgrading my hu and stock speakers before i install the subs. and ya'll are gonna have t o help me design my boxthis time through, i've never tried to do anything like i'm about to attempt in the next few weeks. it seems pretty strict here on posting, should this just turn into my install thread as it happens? it'll be happening soon enough...

i believe this would be the easiest spot to run power wire through, it's a huge square on either side of the firewall, you could easily fit 0ga without having to cut anything. all you'd have to do is run the wire down the firewall and get underneat to push it through to the other side, i don't own jackstands so i can't take a picture of the grommit outside of the car. but it's literally just a square towards the bottom of the firewall. 
i'm not a professional by any means, but THAT is where my power wire is going until someone tells me i'm wrong.

the grommit is somewhere down in this area. remember that it's at the very bottom of the firewall, you'll miss it if you're not paying attention. but it's seriously just an empty square down there.

okay, so sorry for any confusiion but on the engine side of the grommit there is like a pyramid like grommit. if you shove the wire in from the cab, you will end up in this grommit. i just cut and sealed it. i found it easiest to work on the grommit from the engine side by taking off the passenger side wheel. i hope i wasable to help someone out.
