I have an alpine cd changer in the trunk and just moved it to install a rear strut bar. I put it on the back of
one of my back seats since it folded down and would allow
easy access. Since I moved it, it will not turn on (the
remote is the only way to turn it on) and it runs thru the radio frequency channels. Batteries in remote are new, so what else do I need to check to get it back up? Does it have to be level when mounted? Thanks in advance...

Usually all CD changers have to be mounted close to horizontal or close to vertical. There's a switch or dial on the side of the changer that you have to adjust according to whichever mounting method you use. The variance from true horizontal or vertical that each changer can accomodate is usually different among manufacturers. In general I'd recommend against installing a changer on the back of a seat. I think the problem you're having is that it's not properly grounded. When you moved the changer, and had to disconnect (or unscrew from the car's chassis) the small black cable, did you reconnect that once you had the changer mounted? Not having a proper ground connection can and will cause the changer to not turn on.

If you do decide to mount it on the floor, double (no, triple) check the area underneath where you're mounting it--you don't want to screw/drill in to a gas tank or fuel line. For that reason, and because it is more likely to get damaged from stuff being placed on top of it, I try to avoid floor mounting in most coupes and sedans. I usually try to mount it horizontally on the underside of the rear deck, or vertically on a rear side panel (usually only works on suvs). But if I understood your previous post correctly, you don't have room on the underside of the deck, right? Try to squeeze it in up there if possible. Of course mounting orientation and placement all depends on the model/type of vehicle and what you have in it. What kind of car is it?

It's a '93 MX6, so not alot of room there since I just put in the strut bar, but well worth it for the handling.
I can use some type of spacers and drop it below the bar,
or move the unit more toward the rear of the car. I will
definitely make something work, maybe even use the bar to stabilize it underneath. I agree that mounting on
the floor prolly wouldn't be ideal, get the hell beat out
of it and could damage other parts. Thanks for your input.

Forgot this part: I think I grounded it ok, but maybe it wasn't making a good connection, since I recall the stranded wire sorta getting squeezed-out from under the
screw. I will remedy that today. Thanks again.

I left it mounted on the back seat and adjusted the hor/
vert. to almost exactly vertical. It has an adjustable
slide with 5 notches from h to v. Works great and found the original ground wire and tapped into that. Now I can access it much easier that getting in the trunk and
stretching my ass off just to get the changer disc holder
out. If it gives me prolems, I'll move it back to the top if I can. Thanks again
