Been a while since I've had to do some homework on this (around 13 years! holy crap!) so I haven't really kept up on what's great, good, and I wouldn't wipe my ass with...

What I am looking for is an amp that can push 1000w rms @ 2 ohm.

It will be powering (2) 10" Kicker compVR's with 2 ohm dvc's. They are 400w rms each.

I'm not looking to have a top of the line system. I'm just trying to get a decent amp that will last a while since this is going in my daily driver.

Thanks for any advice!

Whats your price range on the amp...How are you wiring subs...JL is a great choice ...See if i can get a little more brand specific answer for you. (edit)

The Kicker ZX1000.1 is 1000w @ 2ohm...

I bought a Clarion 11551 amp which is 850w rms @ 4ohm and 1600w rms @ 2ohm. Its a class D mono amp and I was so impressed for the price at crutchfield of $299 I bought another.

It really pushes alot of power without the battery drain of a hi-current amp.

I've owned several kicker XS100's so i am familar with real power and I don't think uou will be dissapointed.

Hey thanks for the help guys. I was looking at the zx1000.1 but I really don't want to spend over $400 on another amp for a system thats supposed to be somewhat of a budget system. If I could get something for $300 or less I'd be happy. So far its just under $500.

I'm replacing the factory speakers and head in a 1993 audi 90 CS with infinity reference 4in and 5.25 components using an 06zx850.4(place I bought it from ran out of 06 650's so I got upgraded for no extra charge). The subs are just for a little extra kick on the lows that I won't be able to get out of the 5.25's

The ZX1000 is pretty much the same amp as the XS100 which is what I had and I can't believe i'm saying this but that Calrion I feel is a good amount more powerfull, for pretty cheap.  I've only had it for a month so I can't tell you if it will hold up, but so far so good. It doesn't get very hot at all after pounding on it for 30min so thats a good sign

I'm using 16ga or 14ga i'm not sure which one though. I've never really paid much attention to speaker wire ga in the past though, so someone may know what is the correct ga. to use.  I havn't had any problems yet.
