Kicker says the solo classic subs are made for small sealed enclosures.. I was thinking about building a port box for them.. do y'all think it is worth the effort or will they sound better sealed

they will sound better sealed...if you go ported the response will most likely be peaky unless tuned low.

I have heard them in a ported box, and they sounded good.
You will definitely get more Sound Quality out of a sealed box, it just depends what you are going for.
