This system is in a boat and consists of the following:
Kicker KMT6 Long Range Speaker System
LINK
These are listed as a Frequency Response Range of 50-21k.
They are powered by a Kicker ZX 200.2 AMP.
There are also 4 Kicker KM-620 Coaxial Drivers inside the boat.
These are listed as a Frequency Response Range of 35-21k.
They are powered by a Kicker ZX 200.4 AMP.
There are the 2 Kicker 10L5 subs being powered by a Kicker ZX-750.1
These are dual 2 ohm subs wired as a 2 ohm load to the AMP.
There is a Sony Head Unit feeding a Kicker KQ5 EQ with
5 frequency ranges:
Bass 40Hz-90Hz
Midbass 125Hz-250Hz
Lower Midrange 300Hz-750Hz
Upper Midrange 1kHz-4kHz
Treble 6kHz-20kHz
Cut/Boost ±12dB
Input Sensitivity 950mV-9.6V
Output Level 7.0Vrms
The question is now that I have everything powered up and playing how do I begin to set everything?
Should AMP 1 and AMP 2 be set to HI-PASS or FULL RANGE?
Also what are some good basic starting points for setting the EQ?
The instructions for setting the gains on the EQ are bit confusing but I think I have that part done correctly. Getting the correct frequencies to the speakers seems a bit tougher. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Amps 1 and 2 to High Pass with the crossover frequency set to 100Hz on amp 1 and 80Hz on amp 2. Bass amp set to around 100Hz also. These should be good starting points. With all 3 amps playing, figure out how loud you will be playing it. Remove the RCAs from the bass amp and the 4 channel, turn the volume to the level you determined earlier. Listen carefully for the 2 speakers that are playing, if they seem to be bottoming out, raise the crossover frequency until you are comfortable with the sound of the speakers. Disconnect RCA on that amp and connect 2 channels of the 4 channel, return to the level, and listen to that pair of speakers. Then Remove those RCA cables and insert the other 2 channels of that amp. Listen to those speakers. Adjust crossover point accordingly.
