ok I am a total n00b here but trying to get some know how...

I am trying to mod a memphis m3 12 inch, it is an infinite baffle mount in my 03 sebring sedan, I recently noticed that the voice coil bottoms out (sounds like it is tappping the bottom of the motor structure) I was wondering if I could take some washers and kinda push the motor away by around a 1/4 inch to increase excersion. would this work or am I not seeing long term damages here? any advice would be helpful. thanx yall.

not that would not work...sorry

IB cuts power handling roughly in half...if you want more output get more woofers or turn it down. Your only options.

Speakers have lots of design behind them. Putting washers to space the basket from the motor will do nothing but degrade the sound quality by shifting the coil from center in the gap. Now the BL curve super fudged and some other parameters change. No output is gained. Only crappy sound.

It is not like someone can put some washers on the drive axle of a truck to make it have some more suspension travel.
