i was wondering if any one can help. could hook up a radar detector to my radio so that it turns on and off wen the radio turns on and off and will it mess up anything in the car like the radio because i have a tv radio hooked up in the car and subs

Connecting Additional Devices to the Remote Turn On Wire (link)

Using a 30 amp SPDT relay, connect terminal #87 to constant 12 volts positive with a fuse rated to the sum of the additional accessories you've added and the components you need to turn on. (If you have two fans rated at 5 amps each and a neon light rated at 10 amps, you would use a 20 amp fuse plus 200 ma for each amplifier and processor.) Connect terminal #85 to ground, terminal #86 to the remote turn on wire from the head unit, and terminal #30 to each accessory with an appropriate fuse. A fuse (not shown) could also be used between the output of the relay (#30) and the remote turn on wire of the amplifiers and/or processors for extra precaution.

Additional Accessories could = Radar Detector. If you have amplifiers connected to the deck now, connect them where Fan 1 and Fan 2 are connected.

The relay will work great...Are you planning on hacking off the cigarette adapter...? You could leave the plug on and just wrap wires around the top and sides of plug...Wrap tight and add a ziptie...If you are not worried about the plug then you can hack it off(might have some warranty issues and wont be able to use it in another car w/o hardwiring it...!)...It does need 12 Volts right...Normally says it on the cig plug for input/output voltage...If not sure just leave the plug intact and do the wrap method...

so it is not a good idea to hook it up directly to the radio positive and negative wire will it mess up anything if i do

What kind of vehicle? Generally it is fine to connect that way. You said with the radio, had you said with ignition, then I would have given you that.

i have a 2003 monte carlo i was thinkin about hooking it up to the cigarette lighter but that stays on when the car is off that is y i thought it was a good idea to wire it to the radio just not trying to mess up the radio or the car

If you purchased the 100 wiring harness, it is equipped with a red wire that will power the radar detector.
