Hey guys,

I'm looking into the Alpine PDX 4.150 amplifier to power my subs and my 6x9's. It's rated at 150x4 continuous (RMS)@ 2 or 4 ohms. So I guess I have two questions.

1. My 6x9's are only rated to 110w RMS. Will this amp "kill" them, or can I dial those two channels down a bit to better match those speakers?

2. My JL Audio 10" subs are rated a 4 ohms (150w RMS). Can I run those two channels at 4 ohms if the other two are at 2 ohms?

Thanks!
B

Another quick one:

If the RMS of an amp is 100w x 4 @ 2 ohms, will it create distortion or any other issues if powering speakers that are rated:

-75w RMS/255 Max
-90w RMS/270 Max

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if I should get a little "more" power or aim to have a little "less" RMS-rated power in the amp I choose?

Thanks!
Brian

All the numbers look ok for the 150x4, but my Opiniarian wont believe that it has what it takes for the amount of IDBL you have. You can control a 4ch 1000w amp to play those speakers if you wanted. If you got some high quality 6x9's in the future you'd have the means for quite a system.

As far as the 100x4 idea. I got 2 6x9's and 2 6's running off that power. All four rated 200 max. The 6x9's are Cerwin Vega and can easily be pushed to distortion. The 6's are Focal K2's and eat all I push into them and laugh at me. Difference: Cer-Veg-130$/pr Focal-1000$/pr. Amp settings and preamp balance it all out to even MY satisfaction.

:If the RMS of an amp is 100w x 4 @ 2 ohms, will it create distortion or any other issues if powering speakers that are rated::

Amps dont create distortion, people playing them do. heh

oh ya, a amp running 100x4 @2ohm is only a 50x4 when used with 4 typical car speakers...
