This off topic but I was thinking about getting a Kinetik 1400 to replace my existing car battery. Instead of buying a cap. How do you like the Kinetik? All I have is a 500 watt rms set up maybe going to a max of 1000 watt rms setup. Would you recommend it. My only problem is lights dimming.

On your problem, how much is your voltage dropping ?

Correct that. I went to the website and read all the info about it. I need to factor in 800-1200 watts my system runs with the factory stuff. So probaly a 1800

I am pretty certain that the ground is extremely solid....it drops all the way down from 15 volts to about 10 volts after a couple songs

simple...you don't have enough alternator...adding batteries will just slow the voltage drop.

Also you can sell those amps and buy more efficient amplifiers...like some Ice Power amplifiers.

yah you need more alternator, those amplifiers probally pull close to 100-150 amps a piece. lets say 100, take the 100x4 and your pullin 400 amps. your alternator probably puts out around 300 at high rpm. your in dual alternator territory.

Dual alt, huh? Gonna probably have to give up the ac unit for another HO. What car/yr is it?

Room is not an issue it is a 454 in suburban, and like my sig states I have done the big 3, so one more 295 amp alt and i should be good?

alt may be the issue but how long before your volt drops? may be your alt dsnt have a big enough heat sink on it? which you will lose alt charging power due to it getting hot etc.

OWWWWWWWWWWW you said you discharged the cap!

I'm confused by the title of the thread...

If the proper power upgrades were done, then the voltage CAN'T drop... can it?

The PROPER upgrades dont just include underhood wiring, but installation technique as well. Did you crimp and solder all of your connections? Did you clean every chassis ground point and weather-protect it after termination? WHERE did you obtain your chassis grounds? Are you certain you are using adequate gauge wiring throughout the system? Who sourced the alternator? Are THEY reputable? Is the alternator built AS AN HO UNIT, or is it just a re-hashed, off-the-shelf, GM large-case unit? 300A from even a large case GM is still a BUNCH of power. If you don't have at LEAST a 1/2 inch connection stud on the alternator, you don't even have output capacity for 300A.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Wow a lot of ?s. Here we go, all connections are crimped and soldered. I do not know what you mean by weatherproofing at termination. The grounds are the engine block, fender, and the amps are grounded on a ground down to bare metal rear seat mounting hole. The wire is all 2/0 except for the 1/0 that runs into each amp pos and grnd. The alt was from nations out of missouri. The stud is 1/4 inch. the voltage only drops when I am banging on it real hard for a while and if i am just cruising with the ac on and bumping .

thanks for all the info possible

Earthquakes take a lot of power to duplicate.  You may need to UpSeis your alternator.  Your bass amps WILL pull around 100 amps each.

Do you know a company that makes a dual alt kit for a suburban with 454?
