well i hooked up an amp to my girlfriends car and when i turned it on something got fried. the radio wouldnt work so i figured it was that. well i bought a new radio and it still doesnt work. i have disconnected the amp and checked all the fuses i still have current to the 12v+ so im stuck if anyone can help it would great

Check and see if you might have short out your ignition wire. The is also a fuse box underneath the hood, you might want to take a look there as well. ------------- Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.

the dome light and the trunk light do not come on either

How exactly did you have the amp hooked up? I have a power wire running directly from my battery to the amp with a separate fuse on the wire, it doesn't interfere with the car's wiring at all. In your case, frying the radio and the dome & trunk lights sounds like you blew some type of fuse on the car. like thepencil said, check under the hood.
First thing you should do is check the original radio in someone else's car to see if it works then.

well i checked the fuses under the hood and couldnt find any blown. i also took the new radio from her car and put in in mine to see if maybe the wire harness was bad but the radio worked in my car. i have the amp installation kit. i took the wire directly from the battery with an inline fuse attached and put it to the power on the amp. grounded it, and hooked the + & - terminals to the corresponding speakers. one thing i wasnt sure of though was the ohms for the speakers. when i turned the car on the music came on staticy and before i could turn it off it smelled like something was burnt behind the radio. when i took it out i couldnt find any burn spots. the fuse on the radio didn't blow any ideas??

check all the fuses for continuity, not just a visual check. Just the other day I had an AGU type fuse that looked EXACTLY like a brand new fuse, but it was a bad fuse. It turned out that it had blown on the end out of sight. I've also had this kind of thing happen with ATC fuses too. Make sure you've checked both the fuses under the hood and the fuses under the dash

someone told me there may be an inline fuse behind the radio. I have a 1997 dodge neon does anyone know if this is true?? i checked for one but couldnt find it and i dont want to tear the whole dash apart if theres not one in there

ok we found the problem but now we have another...we are replacing the speakers in the front.. but we cant get the door covers off to get to the manufactured ones...because the window handel wont come off does any one know how to get irt off??

Depending on the vehicle, you have to either use a window crank arm removal tool or a torque bit to unscrew the cover off. What vehicle is this ?

OK, just saw your other post. Here's what you need to do if you don't want ot get the crank arm remover tool: - Get a 90 degree pick and push in the door panel so you can see between the crank arm and the panel
- Use a flash light and you will see a gold ring that attaches to the arm inside of the base of the crank
- use the pick and hook it around the top of the" U " and pull straight up
- *** BECAREFUL *** make sure that you place your hand over the pick while you pull otherwise the clip will fly out and good luck finding it later
- after you remove the clip, you can pull the crank arm out and remove the panelling.
