I have a capasitor and I'm wondering how to hook it up and what it actually does?

Connect the cap as shown in the diagram above. Play your system for a few days and notice how much it helps. Then check out my picture again, then see if you can figure it out.
That is great. I am about to hook mine up with the first recommended method. I have mine with 4G and a fuse link 100A abt 6" from the battery, grounded with 4G and my amps poweRED / grounded to the cap. 4G also. It drains my battery every cpl days if I don't use the vehicle.
lol yeah what he said lol priceless. caps are good for paper weights?

OWWWWWWWWWWW you said you discharged the cap!
well if caps dont work then why did my lights stop dimming when i added it. I mean if it didnt work wouldnt my lights still dim? "I am an idiot"... answer me. And i want a logical answer. not a picture. Theres no jokes in this question just curiousity.

those are results that are not relevant to MY truck. MY lights stop dimming AFTER the installation of a capacitor... I dont want to be compared to other vehicles as an ANSWER because I dont drive their vehicles. I didnt Install their systems. They have nothing to do with ME. I just want a logical and hopefully short and sweet answer. Thanks.

The cap may work for a lil bit but will discharge after a few songs and then its just there.
Use a 2nd batt with a fuse
Our smallest batt has more power than 100 caps
Size 7"x 3"x 6.5"
This batt will start a V8

Did you install the cap with no other changes to your system and the lights stopped dimming? If so, you are masking a much larger problem with your electrical system that can "only" be fixed by getting a high output alternator (more amps than stock) for your vehicle.
If you installed the cap and made some other changes at the same time, which we don't know about because you didn't tell us, still see the answer shown above.
To the original poster, your stereo is taxing the electrical system of your vehicle beyond what it can keep up with. A telltale sign is headlight dimming. Improve your electrical system and the problem will be taken care of. Adding more electronics to your stereo system will not help in the long run.
