Ok so here is my idea, shoot me down if its stupid help me out if you think its got value. Im thinking of trying to mount 4 subs in one box, not uncommon on its own, but the second part is the catch. I want to mount the subs all on the four sides of a cube then use sonotube on top of the cube to make up the rest of the volume. would the odd shape cause problems? a 3in x 11.25in port is recommended, would I just put in 4 ports of that size?   The reason for the crazy design is that I plan to put it in the back of my 2003 Yukon and don't want to totally eat the cargo space, so I figure if I build the volume vertically and save footprint it might work out.

Personally I think fiberglass is already thinking outside the box as it is. Sub size? Denali type? Building plans? Creative idea, but they make lousy bass tubes for single speakers, let alone 4.

Im not totally sure yet but the subs will most likely be 12s. Its a 2003 GMC Yukon with factory Bose system. Im just looking for a way to make the box take up as little footprint as possible so I can still use the cargo area.

Gotcha.....You can fit 4 12's in a box that's 13.5" deep. Which only takes the first foot behind the rear seats, then you'd have whats left behind that for cargo. A raised 3" floor for amps is a nice look and easy to do. 1000w of high quality power is probably the lowest amount I'd go for 4 single voice coil subs.

If using fiberglass just put two under the second seat. Or make a box that can be mounted from the ceiling those always look cool and also take care of your footprint issue

you would definitely need to make some sort of support brace

seems like if I mounted it to the ceiling I would need to basically put like a roll cage in to hold it
if you try to hang 60lbs min of box+speakers from the ceiling and blast 1000watts something is going to go wrong

I've just seen it done in magazines. So I threw the idea out there. You were looking for a small footprint so I figured no footprint would be better lol

Splat, the ones that usually worry about cargo space, are blessed with single sub prefab boxes you can order online. 4 subs done properly dedicate the vehicle to a certain degree. There are trick ways to keep space with 4 subs, but take no shorts. 4 12's not optimized isnt worth it. Decide the amount of space you can afford to give up and then buy the # of subs that best fit that space.

Bad pic, but here is a Yukon we did with the raised floor and 4-12's. 1000 watt and 2-200w and a 12 farad electronic cap and a Phoenix Gold line driver under the seat. The raised floor had a tunnel system that we had the fans blowing through it, like a maze. Two fans in, two out for proper cooling. The subs we wired 2ohm stereo, push and pull...posted_image

Forget about using the 4 subs for a minute.....DD Audio makes awesome products. Get 2 of their 8's....yup....that's right i said 8's! They are stupid loud and still reserves your storage room...just a thought. OR even only 1 of their 10's or 12's in the right enclosure would be totally ridiculus....less woofers, less box, less power, less problems, more room...still loud as hell!   hope this helps ~db~
