I have an crew cab pickup truck and wanted to have some opinions as to which sub would produce better low end output for daily driving.  I will be making a 4 - 12" box which will be ported with 2cu.ft. per woofer with 750watts per woofer (i know this is slightly above their power handling).

So what do you think, the Alpine type R or the Cerwin Vega - VMAX?

Any and all opinions are appreciated,

Thanks

The Type-Rs do well ported.  What frequency do you plan to tune to?  2cuft net or gross?

I was going to tune the ports to about 32-33 hertz and my air space would be 2 cu.ft. after woofer and port displacement.

Every woofer setup that i've ever had has been turned fairly high because I try to cram in too many speakers, so now i'm just looking for low deep bass (not concerned with what it hits on the meter).

Thanks

That should work just fine with the Alpines.

Thanks man, they do look good.

Anybody else have any opinions on either of these 2 subs or a preference?

i haven't had much listening time with type R's but we just did 2 cars with the cerwin vega Vmax subs and they slam pretty hard. nice deep bass too. for the price they are a good deal but so are the type r subs. i really dont think you can go wrong with either of those 2 subs.

The Type R will hit lower, the Cerwin Vega higher and louder.  The CV better for real music......but having said that I don't sell them anymore.

Very similar subs.  Looks like both companies had peaky ported subs in mind, much the Kicker L5 and L7s.

Thanks for all the replies, i've decided on the 4 - 12" alpine type R's because i've heard people say they can take more abuse and play lower.

As far as the box goes, I was messing around with some calculators and I came up with a 8 cu.ft. box net with 4 - 4" aeroports 14" long turned to 32hertz (I would prefer areoports from listening to other systems).

I'm not sure if I should put the ports on the top of the box or on the front of the box on the same face as the woofers. As I mentioned before this is going in a crew cab with the woofers firing foward.

Lets hear some opinions on my box design (will it sound ok? or do you have any other ideas)

Thanks so much!
