problem with remote gain knob

Here' sthe problem. I have an Alpine MRP-M500 mono sub amp with has no remote gain control. When I hook up the RCA's to the back of my radio or off of the pass thru on my 4 channel the sound from the subs is better than when I run my PAC Lc-1 inline with the sub amp. Why is this? Is this just a nuance with the product? I took it back to the shop I purchased it from and they said it was working fine. I even swapped out radios with my wife. The Pioneer I have in my car now has 2 sets of preout with subwoofer control. Is this just the better way to go. It's really got me frusterated. My old MTX 895 had a remote gain control that worked like a charm, this one is just not what I thought it would be.

That device is directional.  It has an input and an output.  It is crucial that it is connected properly.

Ditch the knob. All it is going to do is get you into trouble. Set your gain on your amp accordingly, then adjust it from the deck. The knob only changes bass EQ on the amp not input voltage, like a deck does.

A Pac LC-1 is not an EQ of any sort.  It is simply an attenuator that will completely kill input to the amp, and when turned all the way up, it is as though it is not even in the circuit.

like said in an above post, it is a directional divice, make sure it is in the right direction.

I have yet to see one of these fail, as they are a very very simple device, simply a adjustable pot on the RCA, but dosent mean it cant fail.

Try using one side at a time...L or R and see if it goes away, or switch your Left and right and see if it persists.
