MTX...although I honestly think both MTX and Phoenix speakers leave alot to be desired as far as sound quality, I honestly think that the MTX are the lesser of two evils there...
the subs I think are better as well...I used to compete with MTX subs and went up against alot of cars with PG XMaxs and such...and I dont really recall losing to them, heh...

As stated in another post...
It really depends on what part of PGs line you are looking at. If you compare the best of both brands, PG has products with better SQ characteristics. However if you are looking for the best SQ dollar for dollar, I would go with MTX.
One misconception about SQ is how people look at it. Its not just being able to produce music with OUT distortion, thats more along the lines of RMS. Sound QUALITY, is how well the speakers are able to produce the same sound as indended by the artist, with no coloration, or change in the physical sound of how it was origionally meant to sound.
I personally sell MTX products quite often, and I dont think you will be un-satisfied with either. Good luck
