Do you have any idea about the impedance of the speakers?  Are they single or dual voice coil?  Is the amp a 1 or a 2 channel?  Do you have the amp bridged, or is it wired in stereo?  What is the minimum safe operating impedance of the amp?

That amp is rated to handle a 2-ohm load so it should be OK with those speakers.  It is a mono amp so it is not in stereo and there is nothing to bridge.  Does the protection light come on?  What is the system voltage when it shuts down?  What is the ground return resistance?  How did you set the gain?
