Tried setting the clock on the Clarion NX409, but it jumps back 4 hours after 20 seconds of doing so.

Same happens when on navi screen and I attempt to set clock, it always switches back a few seconds later. What gives? Clarion custom service blows, I just get redirected to there local dealers and none of those guys know what they are doing.

You need to set it to the correct time zone. GMT-5:00 is the time zone you are in.
