I have a customer that wants to listen to his Ipod touch in his 1976 Corvette.
He has the orginal ANALOG radio that he told me NOT to remove. He wants to keep everything original.
I have been doing some searching and I have come up with 2 solutions.
1- I can just unplug the wire hareness in back of his original radio and install an aftermarket radio(with aux) and some how mount it on the side of the dash.
2- buy this https://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=FMM-100 and pray to god I can tune into the specific channel with the orginal radio.
I am thinking of going with option 1.
any suggestions?

If the owner takes it to car shows, and needs to keep the car as stock looking as possible the mounting to the side of the console idea probably is not an option for the owner. I have put some head units in the trunk with IR extenders, some in glove boxes, hidden under seats, etc. All just to retain the factory original look.
If all the customer wants is to be able to play his ipod, the FM modulator you listed would probably be the best way to go to retain the factory radio and the retain factory look. The only concern I would have with that particular piece is where does the customer plug in his ipod? There are probably other manufacturers out there but Scosche makes one that has a 1/8th inch jack on a pod that should be relatively easy to hide. This would allow the owner to keep his factory look, and still play his music. Granted the sound quality will be no where near what it can be, considering you are piping it through FM to a 1976 Radio. Here is the Scosche piece:

I am not really sold on going with the fm modulator cause of that analog radio.
I installed a temporary cig plug and tried my griffin itrip fm transmitter on the ipod and I had a really hard time with catching a station.
I was gonna buy a aftermarket radio with an AUX input (ipod ready) I seen some pioneers. you gave me an idea about the ir extenders.
I can install the radio in the back where he keeps his t-tops, run the speakers, ignition, power and ground in the back. I pretty much need to get a radio that comes with a remote. If the remote won't work I will try the ir extender.

Kenwood makes an A500 that you could put in down stream of the stock radio and give inputs, but its $$$$.
There is actually a single din bracket made for that car now, and you could put in a new deck. He can always put the factory back in when he goes to resell. A 76 is not likely to become a collectors item, untill the other 56,000 are destroyed.
