If you feel confident with cutting the plate out, that is one solution. Just ensure that there is enough room for a unit to fit inside the console. There should be ample space where an upgraded model's HU would be. Good luck!

How far are you taking your stereo upgrade/install? Pairing up sensitive fly-by-wire throttle and vehicle body modules; then piling a sensitive CVT gearbox (belt box?) imposes strict limits on how much you can load the alternator.

I do not know the specifics on the alternator output on that car, but I bet that the margins are slim on the bone stock entry level package. Shop and install carefully! You may inadvertently shorten the lifespan on a very expensive Xtronic transmission. (I keep an '03 Murano alive against it's will and barely survived an alternator recall and a weak battery replacement that made the gearbox act very strange until repaired)

just answered my own question with a google search:

Nissan Versa '09 Vehicle Specifications

It lists both the 1.6 and 1.8 Liter engine as having a 110 amp (2KW) alternator. Figuring in that it may have a pair of heated O2 sensors, acessory, light, and A/C loads, a deccently powered radio and an efficient 500 watt subwoofere amp can live peacefully if not pushed *too* hard, in my not-so-educated opinion. Pleases let us know if you succeed and what you ultimately decide to do - I am curious. I have a few friend looking at this car and also asking me about a system install aftermarket style.

Easy as pie with the right parts....isn't that right idiot.  that, a harness and antenna adapter should be all you need....hopefully it's wired for a radio.

If Metra makes a kit for a vehicle.  There are instructions (The PDF file I linked to) on the product instructions page.  Simply go to metraonline.com.  Enter your vehicle information and select kits from the drop down menu.  Then click on the kit you plan to use.  Then click on the blue link that reads, product instructions.  Then Viola, there are the instructions to take the dash apart.

so latest update on this project turned out pretty crappy...

got the new HU and took out the old cover for where the CD player would've been....took the factury brackets and attached them to the right spot on the HU and screwed it all in and went to go put the dash face back on and fml it doesnt fit....the screen of the HU is wont fit by like made half/quarter of an inch but the base part of the unit does fit the hole so what is my best plan...i'm tight on cash and def cant afford another HU
