Subject: eclipse cd3200 blown fuse?
Date Posted: September 03, 2009 at 10:23 PM

I was driving home from work today listening to music and suddenly there was a slight pop in my speakers and my head unit froze up .I stopped turned off the rig and the faceplate stayed lit up. I disconnected the faceplate from the receiver then put it back on and now I have no power in my h/u did I blow a fuse?

Did you check the fuses?

Honestly... How would WE know? You are there AT the car, and therefore quite a bit closer than we are. Check them, and then if they're blown, then yes, you blew a fuse... (or maybe even more...)

If not, then there is likely something wrong with your deck.

It all reminds me of something that Moličre once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I do not think a blown fuse is your problem.  Sounds more like a broken radio to me.

I was asking because i dont have the tools to take my radio out and just wanted an idea of what the problem might be so that when i took it to the shop they wouldnt be able to burn me.

Why do you think anyone will "burn" you?  Take it back where you bought it, especially if it's under warranty.

Removing a radio is usually pretty simple...If your really concerned about paying for stuff you dont need...You need to pull the radio out...Bench test...then decide next course of action... Even stop by a shop and have them release the radio for you...Should be super cheap...if not free...!

The reason is because ive had that happen to me before,I took my truck to a shop and had them test my h/u ,The tech supposedly tested it and told me the deck was toast I had bought it from an online retailer and did not want to wait for a new h/u under warranty from them so I bought one from the shop and sent the "defective h/u in .It turned out the fuse in the h/u was blown and the online retailer sent the same h/u back to me with a new fuse and the h/u worked fine!!! So I was out 300 bucks for the new h/u plus the shipping of the old h/u.thats why i ask

Yeah...That kinda sucks...posted_image        Did you pay them for diagnostic on radio...???  If so...I would of probably gave them a call...and returned the radio I purchased from them...But anyhow...You really need to pull the radio...Past checking the vehicles fuses...Most have either the blade fuse, usually around the harness...or the glass fuse in-line w/ power and accessory wires...So basically you have to pull that radio , before we can even begin to start guessing...??? I am an Idiot said that just from the description you gave...it sounds to him like it imight be the radio itself...? Do you own a Multi-meter...? If someone walked up to the shop and asked to use a set of radio keys...And handed me 5-10 bucks...No problem...! Then there will be no worries about good radio or not...buying another or not...!

I bought some radio keys today and pulled it checked the connections with a dmm everything was good on the vehicle side of the harness,so I assume that the h/u is bad correct?

You checked it with the ground in the radio harness...? If so...Im sure you checked the in-line or blade fuse...? All the voltage was ok...? Next step would be to bench test the radio...outside of the car...! Twist the red and yellow wires together and put to 12v...Black lead to ground...Some radio's have a reset buton on it...Lets press and hold the reset for about 7-10 seconds...Hows the connection look between the faceplate and the radio...?

I checked with the ground in the harness ,but there was no visible inline fuse. All the voltage was good up to the harness .I tried the reset button several times and nothing.I just checked the connections between the faceplate and the h/u everything seems to be ok no breaks, clean, nothing loose.I cant bench test it becuase its under warranty and i would have to cut the wires from the harness to test it

If it is under warranty TAKE IT BACK WHERE YOU BOUGHT IT.  Get it fixed.  Do it now.

I bought it from an online retailer so i have to wait for approval etc etc.. But if i tamper with the wiring they wont warranty it.

So how do they want you to go about diagnosing the problem...Just ship it back...? Worse case, you could just slide some wires into the after-market harness that is attached to radio harness...The squares are usually big enough to slide another in...! 3 wires...Just a thought...! Unplug it from the car...So the radio's harness...and the aftermarket harness that plugs into car all come out with it......Take radio to the power supply your going to use...And test...!

Yep...And it might not hurt throwing a fuse in-line...

If you unplug the radio and just leave the power connected....red,yellow, black....does it still have the same problem?

is it possible that one of the speakers blew or is grounding out? I have the same radio and i never have had any issues with it.

There is a inline fuse on the yellow wire its in that clear/white looking barrel.

also what kind of car is it so maybe we can help you diagnose the problem a little more clearly, factory or aftermarket speakers? amp? subs?

A speaker grounding out wouldnt cause the h/u to not power up,neither would a blown speaker. I will look again but i havent seen a white barrel looking thing attached to the yellow wire.

I checked all the way up the harness and there is a constant 12.3 without the motor on ,with the motor on there is a constant 14.13.
so it has to be the h/u !!! also i found the 10a fuse changed it and nothing.

My setup is as follows :
2 re audio 12's wired to 2ohms on a memphis mcd 500 watt monoblock

mb quart fsa 216 6.5 component speakers wired in stereo to kenwood 500 x4 and tang band 3" drivers wired in stereo to kenwood amp as well ,monster cap still reading constant 14.3 with truck on.hope that helps.

I'll say it one more time: take it back for warranty repair.  If you bought it on line and must get an RMA and deal with the mail, well that's the result of your purchasing choice.  But there is no need to continue this discussion when you've gotten your answer multiple times.
