Subject: how much volume does polyfil add?

So, i just ran the parameters for my Planet Audio BB15DVC through WinISD, and the program recommends twenty-three cubic feet sealed. TWENTY-THREE!!

There's no way im fitting that in a trunk, and im not buying an suv for a freakin Planet Audio sub (maybe a Maelstrom...)!

So, how much 'volume' does polyfil 'add'?
Meaning, if i had a 5cube box and i loosely packed it with polyfil, how much 'volume' would it 'add'?

What WinISD recommends isn't typically correct. It often recommends an enclosure very large to start out with. It does this because it is trying to get the smooth frequency response and a 23 cubic foot enclosure is basically an infinite baffle setup.

This is a link for results of how much volume polyfill can add. To my knowledge it is fairly accurate.

Loosely packed?  10-15%.

what if you have a ported 2ft^3 box tuned to lets say 33Hz. and you stuff it with 1pound per cubic foot of polyfil. will that change the tune of the port? if it tricks the driver in to thinking the box is larger than it is, wont it mess with the tune? how will that work? what will it do? i read the article on the polyfill. did i miss some thing or miss understand?

Yes it will change the port tuning.  Don't fill vented enclosures since you can't accurately predict what kinds of changes you will introduce.  Line the inside walls (keeping fill away from the port) which will approximately compensate for the displacement of the woofer (not a completely accurate statement, but a rule of thumb that seems to work.)
