Ok, so Ive got 2 13w7s and to power them, I have the KX2500.1. The reason I originally got this model over the ZX2500.1, is because I read on lots of forums, that the ZX, wasnt capable of doing 1 ohm without going into protect, and people said the KX was. Originally had it on 2 L7s, but I now Have 2 13w7s.
My question is,should I wire the subs at 1.5 ohms to get full potential from the amp? And would this be safe?

Any advice, is greatly appreciated?

Both the KX and ZX 2500.1 are capable of a 1 ohm load.

The ZX is techinally not rated for a 1 ohm load, but with the proper electrial system I have seen them run without issue for a long time at 1 ohm daily.

Either amp would work fine at 1.5 ohm, but I would say the kx is a better bet as it produces its rated power at 1 ohm.

Really? I thought I read it was 2 ohms as well on the specs. Was there two options on it maybe? If that were true, the amp would be perfect for the subs

This is the KX1200.1   https://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Kicker_KX1200.1/   The 2500 will share the same specs as far as rated ohm load.

Anybody know how to mod a KX2500.1 to be able to run it under 2 ohms? I need it to run at 1.5ohms

Is it going into protect when you try it at 1.5?  Are you trying to make it stable at that load, or just wanting to burp it?

Actually, I havent tried it yet, Ill be done building the box for it later today, Its a ported enclosure tuned to 30Hz with just over 5cu sq ft. I just want to make it stable at 1.5 ohms, it should be more then enough power for the 13w7s.

That amp is very costly to repair.  Very Costly.  I would not recommend running it for extended periods of time at that load.  If it were me, I would use the following relay setup in order to be able to play at 6 ohms for extended times and switch to 1.5 for short bursts.

Switching from Series to Parallel and Back (link)
When the relays are at rest (normally closed position) the woofer coils are wired in series. When ground is applied to each coil (energizing the relay coils), the voice coils are wired in parallel. With 2 four ohm voice coils you'll have an 8 ohm load at rest and a 2 ohm load when the relay coils are energized.

For each dual voice coil woofer that you want to change from series to parallel, you'll need two relays for each. They can all be controlled from the same switch.

But how much power will it let out at 6 ohms? Close to nothing, don't you think?

937.5

I dont think that will be enough power at all, I went to Cartoys to have them test my sub when I bought it, since it was preowned, and they put a 500/1 on it, and it wasnt enough power, and im sure that 500/2 is under rated, im guessing it lets around 600 watts at least, but, it wasnt enough, So im sure 937 isbt gonna do much for 2 of em.

the KX2500.1 is rated to run at 1 ohm so you will be fine if that is what you already have

Jeff, These are the only specs I can pull up, one of straight from Kicker, and it says 2500.1 @ 2ohms. Are you sure thats its rated at 1 ohm? Ive seen alot of your input on other posts, and I'd say you know your stuff, but on this one, I cant find anything about 1 ohm stability..

wow my bad!     I could have swore the KX2500 was a 1 ohm stable amp.

I would meter your coils when you have them all connected, I am still going to say your going to be fine.

The last W7 I hooked up was between 1.6-1.7ohm per coil...I have seen a few right on at 1.5 and a few at 1.4 per coil, but most have been 1.6 per coil.   Either way I have ran the KX and ZX amps at 1 ohm or slightly below without issues (with very very strong electrial)

so 1.6 will be fine, but with that amp it is power hungry reguardless of 2 ohm or 1.6 and you are going to have to provide the current that amp wants which will be in the range of 300+ amps of draw!

Yea, Ive checked one with my multi meter when i bought it and it was fluctuating between 1.6 - 1.7 the other is at 1.6 -1.8 on a field piece meter.I guess they both average at about 1.7 on all 4 coils. Is that good for my setup? By the way, no problem about the mistake, after you said that, I searched and searched because I didnt wanna say I though you were wrong and then you actually be correct. You know more about this stuff then I do.

We all have are moments where we forget things, I havent ran kicker amps in my vehicle since 2007 season.   I will have some of thier amps in my next project vehicle but all the amps will be 10 years old by then!
