Hello all, I am having a sound issue. I am working with a 2000 honda civic si coupe. The doors are dynamated and door seals are in place. I cut enough material away from the plastic part of the door panel, but nothing from the metal part of the door. The speakers just fits in the hole that i made. My problem is that I think there is supposed to be more space around the basket part for ventelation. To me the sounds kind of tinnie and it get distoreted very easy. I have attached pics to show what I mean. I was wondering if I should cut out more material to give the speaker room? My setup is, this is for the front stage only: Boston Z6 ( Running in Bi-amp, Bi-wire) PPI PCX 4125 (125x4 rms) Alpine CDA-7998 (preout only)

You have a couple of choices. Cut the door, or build OUT, away from the door. OR both! Window clearing the magnet when it's down is the first issue, the second is clearing the door panal.

First off. I love your car. Haha. The Poor sound quality could be caused be the metal speaker basket making contact with the Metal door panel and causing it to vibrate..

It all fits ok, I have no clearance issues. I have about 1 inch between the glass and the back of the speaker. The basket gets close but dosent touch the metal part of the door. maybe and 1/16 of a inch. my problem/question is that, Does ristricting the air space between the the back of the speaker and the door panel as you can see in the second pic. Will that affect sound quality aka make that tinnie sound. Should I clearence more of the door panel and metal part of the door away so that the back of the speaker has more room to breathe?

"Tinny"? That sounds to me like crossover issues... "Distorted" to me would indicate a mismatched gain setting somewhere.
On your deck, where do these conditions start occuring? Do they start at the same time, i.e. the same place on the volume knob? If not, is the tinny sound throughout the volume range? If so, consider adjusting your high-pass crossoer slope or frequency.
As far as "more space for ventilation", I personally think that's a non-issue in this particular case. The Xmax values you are dealing with in this case are too small to really have an air-flow issue; seeing the area they have already been provided for breathing, I think you're OK.

It happens at diffrent points in the volume depending on what song i am playing. the headunit is set to flat with all crossovers time corrections set to defeat. The crossovers on the amp are set to full for the tweeters and the mid are high passed at 70hrz, but I have tried them set to full also. the rest is all on the boston crossovers. I cant change the gain for left to right. All i can change is the gain for the mid set or the tweeter set.
