ok im stuck in a descision. i have 2 type r 15s and i was thinking about selling them and getting audioque subs and amps. budget is an issue and i was thinking about getting their street duty 12s and an aq1200 amp. does anyone know how loud these 12s would be compared to the type r 15s? and should i start with the street duty or just go straight for the hdc3`s? i also want to stick with 12s because 15s require too much box volume for my trunk. anny suggestions would be appreciated!

the 15's will have more output
to even be comparable in cone area you would need four 12s

yyyeah thats true in a general sense but what about magnet size and cone shape? plus the boxes for my 15s are taking up my entire trunk and there isnt much airspace inside the trunk left to be moved around.

magnet size has little to with output.

ok then. lol how about the type r 15s vs the street duty 15s? i know that the rs are built more for sq than spl so would the sd 15s which im assuming are built for spl suit me better. im going for a daily ground pounder...i would like to be in the 140s goin down the street.

I wouldn't say the Type-Rs are made more for SQ. They are designed for a mix of SQ and SPL. You could get two Type-R 15s in the 140s in the right setup, also.
The Audioque subs are going to have a higher sensitivity and a little bit more power handling. They are also going to be designed a little more for output, like you said. So yes, they would be better for overall output. But I do think you can reach your goal with either sub.

ok and what would you consider a proper setup? i have them in individual 3cuft boxes tuned to 35hz and i only hit 135 on a termlab meter...its in a taurus (which i bought before i entered the basshead world).

The enclosure is the main factor.
If you want to get higher numbers I would suggest going down to one 15 or two 12s.
Fitting two 15s in a properly sized bass reflex in a trunk is usually a hard feat to accomplish.
Also with the Audioque subs they each need 4.5 cu ft NET PER SUB.
Can you fit a 10+ cu ft enclosure in your trunk??
Even with two Type R 12s you should be able to get into the 140s with 1500 watts ------------- Custom Enclosure Design
