hey all :o)

i'm installing an amp and sub for a friend and have run into a small problem. I purchased an amp install kit to make my job easier.

Anyway, when all the cables are hooked up (positive, ground and remote) I connect the battery and the amp fuse blows, I've checked the cabling and ground and all is OK, whats the problem???? :x

Do you have a fuse within 18" of the battery if so dose that fuse blow? Or is it the one on the amp? But it sounds like some where the +and - are coming in contact. But if your sure their not making contact anywhere. You might want to pull the amp out and wire it directly to the battery (fuse +within 18" of battery) +and - and use a little jumper wire from the + of the battery to the remote to turn it on. If it turns on and doesn’t blow the fuse then you know that you have a bad cable or connection somewhere let us know what happens and we can work from there.

bberman is right.  Sounds like you have a frame ground somewhere.  Test it like he said and you will be able to tell if thats indeed the problem.

thanks for the help, I tried that and the fuse still blows, the + cable fuse is within 18" its about 6" along the cable from the battery

the ground is in the trunk of the car and I checked to see the voltage is OK and everything, the main cable fuse doesnt burn out, only the amp one, (its a 20 ampere fuse), there is not smoke or smell coming from the amplifier so I dont think its fried.

are you sure you are using the right size fuse for the amp?

thats the fuse that came with the amp, I checked that first, but since the amp is not drawing a large amount of power on start and 0 gain, it should be OK. its a 2*300 watt max, mosfet amp. Should be OK I think.

if you tried testing it like bberman said, and its still lowing, it sounds like you might have a problem with the amp.

If you pulled it out of the car and tested it directly and it still blows the fuse than you have a bad amp. But if you bought the amp used double check with the manufacture about the correct fuse rating.

Hook up the amp the way you had it, and disconnect the speakers from the amp. If it still blows the fuse, then it's the amp. If it doesn't blow the fuse, then you've got a blown speaker.
