OK you very intelligent bassheads, techophiles, super stars, legends, et al., I have one for the brain! I just got my replacement alpine mrp 1000 amplifier, and waiting for JL W3'S to replace clip damaged subs via JL direct. I have the alpine 9886 cda head unit, and using 4 gage wire to amp and ground. did one of the big three, but hesitant to do the other 2. regardless of the integrity of the system, the amp gets very! warm, but can touch (not baking eggs yet) and the nissan 99 1.6 sentra has a 80 amp alternator.I am bottomed out with cash! for now, after all of the system build. The SPL was measured at 141.56. I s there several solutions other than fans, or 300.00 alternator by irragi, that would help quell the beast from frying a new amp, and keep new subs unclipped? I really would love you for inputting, ot past experiences. I am not a WALKING ATM. I AM A STUDENT AT UMUC, AND OVER HALF A CENTURY YOUNG (yes bassheads come in all sizes).

Is the amp connected to any speakers? If it is not connected to a speaker, remove the RCA cable from the amp. Without a speaker, you are taxing the output filters designed to remove the high frequency oscillation from the output section. The inductors will get fairly warm. With no speaker and no RCA connected, the amp should run just above ambient temperature. If running hotter than that with no input, there is a problem with your amp.
