I've an older bass boat that used to have a radio but it crapped out some time back and I really miss it.  The old one didn't have much undistorted volume and I'd like to improve it a little if I could.

I have a Chrysler factory stereo that has a surprisingly good sound but I am undecided what to do about speakers.  First, I really don't have the room (or the battery capacity) for an amp.  I have scrounged up (4) 51/4" Pioneer speakers (Wal-mart quality).  Would I get better (and more) sound out of these (4) speakers or should I purchase a pair of good full range 6 X 9 's.

The console they will go in is fairly small so whatever I put will be in close proximity to each other.

THANKS!!!!!

JT

They should sound fine as long as you don't expect a thump from them.

JT,

If you have some room on your boat, carve out some small box for your speaker. You can get slightly a bit more deeper tone out of them.

Hey, thepencil, Thanks for the advice.  I have plenty of depth but not a whole bunch of room between the speakers and the sides of the hull.  How deep should the boxes be?
