I have a 12 w6 and im going to build a ported box. But on the JL site it recomends a 29" port but on the calculator on here it recomends a 20" port. Both tuned at 32 Hz. Can anybody recomend one or the other. Please

If you follow the JL specs, you really cant go wrong. In all actuality, understanding the changes in sound that port dimensions can alter, may help decide which route to take. Port area I usually adhere to, but the length I design/build for the ability to modify if I hear the need.

so what your saying is that if i build this to the jl specs and dont like the way it sounds i can always trim some off but if i build it to the specs from the calculator then i will have to redo the port?

The length of the port is dependent on the net volume of the enclosure, the desired tuning frequency and the area of the port opening.  What size port is JL recommending?  The calculator on this site is accurate, assuming you enter accurate information.

the box is around 1.75 after bracing. the box is from their recomendations as is port. 1.5"x12.5"x29" tuned to around 32.2. the site here is recomending it to be around 20" instead of 29" in deep
