lower power to small speakers

Hey i am wanting to hook up some small speakers in my car. They only hold 10 watts rms and i was wondering if putting a high wattage higher ohm resistor would help lower the power going to them. The speakers will be 8ohm. Any help is appreciated. By the way its a 04 tahoe im replacing the small speakers in the very rear by the third row seat. Just dont wanna blow the tiny new speakers.

If I may interject for a second.... Upgrades like this do not cost much. With the low cost you gain peace of mind, better reliability and whats most important, potentially better sound.

im using a pioneer 3100dvd head unit, but all of my speakers are powered by a alpine mrp-300. I think thats the right number. Does anyone know if using the resistors, such as some 100w 8ohm resistors, in series with the speaker , will lower the power going to them enough to keep them in par with my alpine s series in all the other doors?

Adding a resistor would lower the power going to your sub. Not only would the resistor use power it would also change the load on your amp. So if you were to wire the resistor in series it would mean your head unit (or amp) would be putting out less power as well. You would need resistors that can dissipate the amount of power they are given though.
Why do you want to add these speakers anyways? You said you want to put them in the back but is this for people that would sit back there or do you think you are going to be getting better overall sound by adding them?

I figured it would increase the rear fill some, but thats about the only reason for wanting to replace them other that something to do. Thanks for all the help guys!
