Gang,
I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler, with the factory sub console, and the tape deck. I want to add an aftermarket head unit, but I have a couple of questions.
1. Is the sub amplifier driver from the rear speaker outputs? In other words, how do I retain the factory sub and amp?
2. Are the rest of the speakers driven from the head unit or an amplifier?
I have already replaced the factory speakers with some seperates, and I am happy with the speakers, but now I want a CD player instead of the tape deck.
Also, if at a later date, I want to run a small amp for the seperates, will it still be possible to retain the factory sub and amp?

You should be able to retain the OEM amplifier and sub. You will need to be able to power the remote turn on lead from the new HU to the OEM amp .

I have done this on my old 2002 Sport and it is really simple. For the sub to turn on, you have to make sure that the ground lead that was attached to your factory head unit is attached to your new head unit. The Jeep uses a floating ground so it won't be good enough to just ground it to the chassis. Also, it is fed from the rear (I think) outputs so you really won't have to do anything once you plug the wiring harness into your new deck. One thing you should probably keep in mind, especially if you are amplifying your front/rear speakers, is that the sub won't be balanced with the rest of your system. In short, it will sound like sh!t until you turn the volume up. According to the Jeep shop manual, there are no adjustment but I would confirm that for yourself.
