hi there. I would like more punch upfront, however I am not interested in a 3 way setup up front. I have 6 1/2 " components(kicker) and a 12' infinity reference sub in the trunk. I was thinking about putting an 8" infinity sub directlyinfront of my rear passenger seats(in the middle fireing forward and aiming towards the rear view mirror. I would cross these over at 200(maybe even 180) to not be able to localize them.....cross my 12"over at 80 and my upfront components at around 120. I don't think this will disrupt my image wich is decent now....the 8" in the middle would be in mono with 150 rms

what do you think aside from your opinion....I think the theory would sound great....infinity is priced right so it's good enough for me!

I have also noticed through my experience that drasticaly cutting 1k on my 7 band equalizor drasticaly improves sq and midbass..i listen mostly to rock/alternative

infinity may not be the most desired but however I feel with the realy high efficiency rateing they have they'll reproduce sound quick enough to blend in....any thoughts slash opinions would be very much appreciated! IMO NA speakers have nothing on european speakers warmth, and dynamics..however these are within my budget!

In practice, (let's forget theory right now) you'd be wrong. First, you are wrong about your localization. The human ear can EASILY locate 120Hz, and in some cases, even as low as 100Hz; in the car, where you are very near-field, 80Hz is localizable. Nope... 180Hz would be a piece of cake, so throw the 200Hz idea away! Doing a mono add, the way you are thinking of, WILL trash your image. My doors are crossed in at 80Hz at 48dB! PLENTY of punch, I promise you!

Also, just adding the woofer, even if you were to add a stereo pair, will not necessarily help with you desired midbass punch. You need to change your existing components: the Kickers are HARDLY a sound quality setup, and the crossovers are very likely a major contributing factor to your perceived lack of it. A voice coil with high inductance will be electrically slower (thus damaging the transient capability, i.e. your "punch") than a higher quality driver would be. Also, the passive crossover (with it's iron-core inductors and electrolytic capacitors... GARBAGE!) in line with the relatively poorly designed woofer is causing you some consternation, as well.

Here's the theory part... Rather than dumping time, energy, and money into an amp, woofer, installation and fabbing that WON'T help as much as you think, and might even place you further behind than you are right now, buy a good quality 4-channel amplifier and outboard electronic crossover and amp the components without the Kicker supplied passives. I know you were not asking (necessarily) for opinions, but in mine, this will be FAR better spent money, with many more noticeable sonic benefits and improvements.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

If your worried about localization cues.......One of the most important things to consider is decoupling , and reducing / eliminating vibrations.
