I bought 2 Type - r 12's (4 ohm)from a guy and he had a wire hooked to the 2 middle terminals and said it made them louder or sound better or something. I've ran them like this for a while and they sound fine but I was wondering if it really does help anything or not and what it's really doing.

If the speakers are dual voice coil drivers, that is the only safe way to run those speakers on that amp.

To answer your question, Amplifier bridging is simply using 2 channels of an amplifier to drive a common load.  Your amplifier is a 1 channel amplifier.  Your speakers have their voice coils wired in series.  Then you have your speakers paralleled at the amplifier.

They're wired parallel, each sub has a positive and negative going to the amp. There is just a wire going from the spare pos. terminal to the spare negative terminal on the same sub.

That means that the voice coils are wired in series.  Then the speakers are paralleled at the amp.

Oh, somehow I didn't get that from your 1st post. So it is dangerous to run them without the wire.

Without the wire, they will not play.

subs are not bridgeable. . . amps however CAN be bridged.

Yeah I knew amps could be bridged but I didn't know how else to explain my subs.
