Hi guys,

I had just purchased an O-Scope from TPI for level matching. I wanted to try to figure out when my head unit would clip and when my amps would clip with respect to the optimum volume of my head unit.

Ive tried to run the O-scope from my head unit's rca and played a 1khz 0db test tone gradually turning the volume up. I was able to take the volume all the way up to max but saw no square wave on my scope. I then did the same thing I mentioned above and this time, on the speaker outs on the amp. Upon adjusting the gain, I was able to see the square wave from my scope.

Question:

1) Ive read somewhere that some HU's do not clip. Is it possible that my Alpine IVA-W505s dont clip at max volume?

2) If my HU doesnt clip, then at what volume do I set the HU when I run 1khz tone to my amp?

3) If my HU DOES clip(like many people say it does), what am I doing wrong with my scope that I cant seem to see that square wave?

Thanks guys,

Gauge

There is a good chance that the unit will not clop with a 1K test tome. It may take some equalization or a hotter recorded test tone.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I thought actually. So how would you suggest i find my HU's optimum volume level then?
