Subject: system not as loud as it should be

hi,

first let me tell you what i have in my 2002 alero.

2 10" memphis power reference svc subs (new)

1 memphis 500d (used)

factory stereo (monsoon system)

8 awg amp kit

dual 10" sub enclosure with 3/4 mdf, and .80cf of air space on each side

stinger line output converter

now about the sound.  the subs are hitting, but just not as loud as it should be, i have the wired bass knob, and it is set at max. i have tuned the amp, i just don't know what else to do?

i have installed systems with a single memphis pr sub and the 250d that sound better.

any input is appreciated.

Sounds like you don’t have the Xover on the amp set correctly. You have a subsonic filter set it as low as it will go. If I can remember its 20 HZ then set the low pass @ 80 HZ or a little higher and let me know what it sounds like.

Make sure your sub are in phase with each other, if one is pushing out and the other is pushing in you wont get no sound.

And check to make sure the line out converter is properly set

how do the subs become wired out of phase? they sound like they are in phase.  but what do you mean about the converter being properly set, there are no gain controls on it.

what are the wiring codes for the rear speakers.  the wiring codes on this site are for up to 2000 alero's

the subsonic filter thing didn't really help, it increased the bass a little but not that much, and also there is a crackling sound from some kind of interfearance playing through the subs,  the subs also play whenever i use the keyless entry or pop the trunk. i installed the line output converter at the factory amp using the wiring codes given on this site. thanks

What I mean by phase is make sure that the postive output from the amp goes to the positve input on both subs, and the negative is going to the negatvie side of the subs. Get a 9vlt battery and attach a red wire to the + side of, a black wire to the - side and then put the red wire one of the speakers wires and the black to other and look if the speaker goes in or out. Then go to the other sub and hook it up the same exact way and make sure the sub moves the same way.

Maybe you should use 4 gauge wire instead of 8. I just experienced the same problem with my Alpine MRD-M500 and I rewired the power and ground with 4 gauge wire, then it was noticeably louder. Also you should probably think about a high output alternator.

I didn't read your post fully, and didn't notice that you are using the factory monsoon head unit. It is usually better to use an aftermarket head unit with RCA pre-outs with an aftermarket amp. However, you have a monsooon system that I assume is like the Bose systems in that they are really difficult to upgrade from (you have to replace the speakers along with the amplifiers), and can also get costly. Also, do you have the power and speaker wires running side by side? That can cause the interference you are hearing.

i got the loudness problem fixed.  i just took everything out, and re installed it, man it slams, i mad my neighbors mad.

the speaker wires and power wire are only close together at the amp, because they both connect next to each other.

thanks for the help.
