Happy Holidays all!
On a '95 Toyota 4Runner, I am replacing a Pioneer FH-P95 head unit with a Pioneer FH-P800BT. The P95 was installed by a shop in '96 and I have had no problems with the install since. The install was a complete system (hu, amp, and speakers). Knowing what I do now and didn't then, I realize that shop did a butchering job with my stock wiring. I cut and spliced from the old (P95) harness to the new( P800) one, one wire at a time matching colors. For some reason, the shop had the battery and illumination leads from the stock wiring to the Pioneer harness reversed. That worked with the P95 and I only discovered this when I connected the new P800 and it wouldn't work. Don't know how that worked correctly but it did. I have corrected this for the P800. Also, the P95 harness has two resistors or diodes or whatever they are on it (light blue with yellow, red, black, and orange bands around it). One is on the yellow battery lead and the other is on the red accessory lead. Don't know if those are factory installed or he installed them or why they are there.
Only thing I can't figure out now is the operation of the stock power antenna. The way the shop installed it, the power antenna would extend when the hu was set to tuner and retract with any other setting or when the vehicle was turned off. The part I don't understand is the P95 has one remote lead coming out of it. The label on this lead says "If this (head) unit is combined with a power amplifier, connect its blue lead to the blue lead (system control terminal) of the power amplifier. If combined with an auto-antenna, connect its blue lead to the relay control terminal of the auto-antenna." The shop ran this lead to the amp. I understand this, but I can't figure out how the power antenna is being controlled, unless he did something internally with the hu or added something else that I haven't yet found. There is only one blue wire coming from the P-95 harness, and the only other connections being made were ground (black), battery (yellow), ilumination (orange), and accesory (red). Also, he did not use the factory power antenna leads that terminate at the factory head unit connector. Whether he spliced into them somewhere else or ran separate wires to the antenna I haven't determined yet - it got dark on me today when I was outside.
I'm thinking I need to find the wiring that is going to the power antenna and find out where that is coming from and whats controlling it. I would like the antenna to work the same way with the new hu, such that it only extends when the tuner is being used and is retracted at all other times. I definitely do not want it to be extended every time the hu is turned on if the tuner isn't being used. The P800 does not have a separate power antenna control. I'm not sure if the P85 does as its so old I am not able to find installation instructions for it, but I don't think it does as it has just that one blue remote lead this is labeled for either the amp or antenna.
What would be my best option to get the antenna working this way? Worst case scenario is I add a switch and just control the antenna manually, but I'd like to not have to do it this way if possible.

Some older Pioneer units had an Orange wire for constant, and a yellow wire for illumination. What is the antenna doing now? Not coming up at all, or coming up with any source?

So then if thats the case with this one, it is possible that just by me matching the colors from the old harness to the new one, I was actually the one that got them reversed?
Right now the antenna does nothing with any setting. It just stays in the down position. Guess it could be a fuse. I'll verify fuses in the morning. But I did verify it worked before I removed the old hu and it did.

You did not reverse the wires, Pioneer switched the color of the wires. Are your amplifiers coming on? What all is connected to the blue wire of the new radio?

Yep, amp comes on when the new hu is turned or powered on and goes off in the same manner. That blue wire goes to the amp. But at the amp remote terminal, there are two wires going into it, so one is going somewhere else. I haven't yet figured out where that other one is going to or coming from.

:::EDIT::: Never mind on the original post, I was incorrect. The old Pioneer did have an antenna control. Its not in the harness, but a separate wire coming out of the hu, so I missed it. New hu doesn't have an antenna control, so I'm going to connect it to the remote wire. But this is going to extend it anytime the hu is on. If I interrupt this wire with a spst switch, that should take care of it I think.

Yes you can interrupt that wire with the switch.
