68 Mustang cd player install questions

I'm thinking about installing a new cd player in my 1968 Ford Mustang. The wiring for the original radio is very very primitive. I was wondering if anyone out there has installed or has seen an installation of a cd player in an old car like mine. I will be using a universal underdash kit to mount the deck but I don't know where to begin on trying to wire it. The original has a power, ground, switched 12 volt and speaker wires for one speaker. How do I go from that to all the wires that are in the new cd players? Are there any wire harnesses or adapters of any kind out there for that? Thanks!

I am running the factory am radio and an aftermarket CD player in my 67 Mustang.  I left the factory set up alone, I didn't splice any of the wires and left the radio still working in the dash. The CD player is mounted under the dash. I just ran all new power wiring to the fuse panel, just using a volt meter to determine which fuses are switched and constant. For the speakers I ran my own speaker wire under the carpet to the back 6x9s. I'm not running any front speakers right now, but I've seen speakers that fit in the kick panel. I think you might find it easier to run everything with new wire instead of trying to splice or use the factory stuff. Hope this helps a little.

Have to agree with jeffryjb they best way to do it is to run all new power and speaker wires. All you will from the car is (3 wires) a" ground" source you can get that from the Chassis.  A" Constant" wire run a wire from the battery to the constant connection on your new head unit (make sure you fuse this connection). And a "switched "+ 12 volt now to get that the best way is to tap into the ignition. If you get a voltage tester just test the ignition wires until you find one that has a + 12 volt and make sure it turns on and off with the key/ ignition. Now for your speaker connections you will need to run (4) separate speaker wires (1) to each or the 4 speakers in your car. This is a very simple project probably a lot easier than most late model cars.
